Hash Generator (MD5, SHA-256, SHA-512)

Free hash generator: MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 for text or files, HMAC with a key, hex or Base64 output, and a checksum checker to verify downloads. Files never leave your browser.

MD5 and SHA-1 are fine for checksums but broken for security; use SHA-256 or better. Files are hashed in your browser and never uploaded.

Questions people ask

Which hash should I use?+

SHA-256 for anything security-related. MD5 and SHA-1 are only good for quick checksums because collisions can be made on purpose.

How do I verify a download?+

Choose File, pick the downloaded file, and paste the checksum from the website into “Compare with a known hash”. A green tick means the file is intact.

What is HMAC?+

A hash mixed with a secret key, used to sign API requests and webhooks. Enter a key to get HMAC-SHA values.
